The United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) is responsible for promotion and protection of human rights, as well as responding to human rights violations around the world. Although its legislation is only recommendatory, the HRC has been one of the most influential inter-governmental UN bodies to date, acting swiftly and decisively on global issues. Its work to guarantee universal rights and liberties to everyone makes it one of the most powerful subsidiary organs of the UN.

Topic 1: Addressing the rights of migrant workers of post-war countries
In conflict, inhumane acts and war casualties take place. Migrant workers experience many concerns in their presence in other nations; this revolves around food, shelter, healthcare, loss of wages, separation, and discrimination. Sometimes they are mistreated, and their human rights violated. After conflict, countries lack resources, require humanitarian aid, and their communities are emotionally and physically harmed. Migrant workers are not in their home country. Those conditions worsen in the midst and aftermath of war. Thus, migrant workers must be protected and “reinforced” to correctly endorse their rights. We wish to bring this topic to the committee as migrant workers are affected worldwide immensely. Moreover, with the surge of the COVID-19 pandemic, these conditions worsened.
Topic 2: Discussing the protection of indigenous communities against discrimination
Equity has been a value that defines human rights, and it revolves around helping reduce disadvantages. With prolonged efforts, human rights should be respected by every individual. Regrettably, many cases of discrimination and inequality happen daily across the globe. People are not being respected for their rights, and something must be changed within society to do so. Indigenous communities are one of the most culturally diverse groups in many countries. In many cases their rights are not respected accordingly. Their cultural backgrounds are overseen adn isolated, people should never diminish who they are because of their background. The way to do this is to start using new policies and stop discrimination in legislation and in general. We must educate people on differences and their countries ethnic roots. For this to be successful, countries need to support these practices. We want to bring this topic to the committee as we believe diversity and respect for differences are essential to societal development. It also brings awareness to the importance of respect from a young age.
